The Tea Room menu cover, Hochschild, Kohn & Co, Baltimore, Maryland, USA (1926) | Vintage wall art print
This 1926 tearoom menu comes from a famous, but now closed, department store called Hochschild, Kohn & Co in Baltimore, Maryland. It was a striking example of the sleek and minimalist art deco movement which had just come into fashion, replacing the more decorative art nouveau style.
The main illustration shows a lady in stylish 1920s clothing and hat sitting across the table from her equally stylish gentleman friend. This was a restaurant more than a tearoom. There were 19 oyster dishes on offer, 15 different salads and cakes and desserts galore. Three course meals cost 65c or 85c.
Hochschild, Kohn was established in 1897 and had several department stores. Dimensions include a border to allow for framing to taste. Packaged and delivered flat, this vintage print is perfect for any collector or fan of the art deco movement.
